Leonie Bailey

L.L.B (Hons), Dip Proj Mgt

Principal Lawyer

Practicing in Family and Criminal Law, I spend most of my time working in Western Australia and Victoria.  I'm a formally trained collaborative practitioner and a nationally accredited mediator.

The use of multi-disciplinary skills and experience, both in life and the law, give me the grounding to offer support to my clients while assisting them to obtain the best results when resolving their disputes.  Whenever possible I encourage clients to resolve family law matters without going to Court.  Through negotiation, and by focusing on the best interest of the parties and their children, I assist clients to achieve a successful outcome without resorting to stressful and expensive litigation.

The most satisfying part of being a collaborative lawyer is working as part of a team in an empathic and supportive environment.  I enjoy helping clients to develop creative and flexible solutions to disputes in a respectful, timely and cost efficient manner.  When I see clients moving forward, each on a new path, while acknowledging the importance of continuing to communicate with each about their children, I get a great sense of fulfilment.

When assisting criminal clients I offer supportive advice and provide robust representation before the Court.

I not only enjoy practising law, I cherish spending time with my amazing family and pursuing my hobby, photography.

Deborah Akers

L.L.B., M Counselling

Principal Lawyer

My legal experience and interests are in Family Law, Intervention Orders and Crime. I practice in both Victorian and Western Australia Jurisdictions. I come to the law with a sold background in the health and education industries.

I have a particular interest in working with families experiencing Family Violence. This includes assisting them to manage the impact of violence on their legal issues. I understand that legal matters can be stressful and that the context of violence has profound effects on coping skills.

In Family Law cases, I bring a wealth of knowledge around Child Development, Family Violence and Mental Health issues. I treat every client as an individual and assist them to move towards settlement in a non-litigious manner if possible. Family law, perhaps more than other legal matters, can be stressful and damaging, particularly when there are children involved.

When it comes to Criminal Law, I work with clients to understand the context and circumstances that are often behind alleged offences. I have represented clients facing charges in Magistrates' Courts across Victoria and in the Pilbara.

When I'm not practising law I can be found lecturing at Monash and Latrobe universities. My weekends are spent watching my beloved Essendon Bombers in the AFL or spending time with my family and walking my two dogs.

L.L.B. (Hons), B.Pharm

Lawyer and Registered Migration Agent (MARN: 1467452)

I started my legal career working as an immigration lawyer and immigration agent. Having a particular interest in administrative law, I enjoy running cases where clients have been refused a visa, or had a visa cancelled, whether it be at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Judicial Review, or Ministerial Intervention.  Prior to joining DeLancey Legal, I ran my own immigration law practice.

I have a strong background in health, as I have been a registered pharmacist for almost twenty years. As a result, I have a particular interest in immigration cases, where the issue of health waivers arise.

I enjoy working as a collaborative lawyer to ensure my clients are supported through the legal process with a focus on their individual needs.

While my initial interest was primarily migration law, I now also practice family law and criminal law, and enjoy working with my clients to achieve the best possible outcome in a timely and cost effective manner.

Outside of my work, I love spending time with my young family and enjoy music and the arts.
